Obverse

1st issue: Printed in England at the Bank of England Press on white, handmade and moulded paper. Released in October 1925, withdrawn from circulation in June 1941. Portrait of King George V in right window. Serial number on top left and below portrait. FIVE RUPEES in Central Denomination Panel. 5 in top right and lower left. Signed FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA.

Reverse

G.R.I. in top margin, GOVERNMENT . OF . INDIA in lower margin, language panel to left. Rs. 5 on top right corner.

Microlettering

Obverse: ‘5’ in a floral intricate pattern in promise text. reverse: ‘5’ in an intertwined circular pattern.

Watermark

Variety a – Rayed star and GOVT/OF in two lines and INDIA enclosed within wavy lines and flag on right. Variety b – Rayed star and GOVT/OF in two lines and INDIA.

Note

Specimen colour trials with serial numbers A/3 – 012345 and A/3 – 567890 printed on the same note are known. The intricate pattern on the left side above and below on the reverse is darker than the issued notes. * The wavy lines in the watermark were eliminated from Type 3.4.1B as they were the property of Bank of England by an Act of Parliament.
