Note

The reason for the denomination of Rupees 2/8 Letter No. 139 of 1917 Government of India Finance Department “We cannot look for immediate acceptance of such notes in any large quantities, and we consider that 2/8 note, which would introduce a fresh denomination intermediate between a Rupee coin and a Five Rupees note which ordinarily hold out better chance of success” text from correspondence of finance department, government of india with the india office in london These notes were not issued in a booklet. It is not certain how these notes were issued to the public and in what aggregates. But in all probability they were issued in groups of 20 or 40 notes wrapped in a paper band.
