Paper
White, handmade; moulded. The paper mould manufacured two Notes joined together which were cut vertically after printing. The cut or the sharp edge is either on left or right. The other three edges are uneven or deckle edges.

Four.
Watermark
Type1: Wavy lines within a wavy rectangular panel. INDIA in centre and GOVERNMENT OF INDIA below. Vertical RUPEES inverted on either side. Plate number in an alphabet on one side and week and year of manufacture in four digits on the other side.
Type2: Same as Type 1 except ‘INDIA’ replaced by ‘500’ from 1909.
Note
From 1909 the watermark ‘INDIA’ has been replaced by ‘500’. The style of fonts on upper serial numbers changed.
