500 Rupees TYPE 2A.6.1 (1867 – 1900)

Obverse

1st issue (1867-1900). Demonetised on 12 January 1946. Uniface Notes. Printed In England. Green underprint with two serial numbers. Language panel on top. Two serial numbers on either side below language panel. GOVERNMENT OF INDIA in centre. Two sets of mirrored date on either side and the circle of issue below promise text. Denomination panel are on either side. 500 / RUPEES in a hexagon in top corners. FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA in a panel on lower left with the signature to its right. Green underprint of irregular ovals under serial number and large 500 within the promise text.

Paper

White, handmade; moulded

Watermark

Wavy lines within a wavy rectangular panel. INDIA in centre and GOVERNMENT OF INDIA below. Vertical RUPEES inverted on either side. Plate number in an alphabet on one side and week and year of manufacture in four digits on the other side.

Note

  1. The placement of the denomination panel in English is shifted above.
  2. The position of the language panel is placed above in centre and is interchanged with GOVERNMENT OF INDIA.
