Obverse

3rd issue Red underprint. Universalised. Burma excluded in promise text. “AT ANY OFFICE OF ISSUE NOT SITUATED IN BURMA” same as Type 2A.1.2 except size increased. Circle of issue now denoted by alphabets above serial numbers on either side. Two identical dates below language panel on either side

White, hand-made; moulded.

Serial Number

Four. The font type of all serial numbers is the same with reduction in size in the lower two serial numbers.

Watermark

Wavy lines within a wavy rectangular panel. INDIA in centre and 5 RUPEES 5 below. The alphabet denoting the plate number on lower left, week and year of manufacturer’s code in two digits in lower middle and lower right respectively.

Note

  1. In many notes of Lahore circle there is a single numeral overprinted in red colour beside the date.
  2. The names of the Issuing Circles are withdrawn and replaced by their initial C for Calcutta; B for Bombay; M for Madras; L for Lahore; K for Kurrachee and A for Allahabad and later for Cawnpore on either side of the date
