5 Rupees TYPE 2A.1.2 (1901 – 1903)

Obverse

2nd issue Green underprint, same as Type 2A.1.1 except size of the note increased to accommodate the new six language and denomination panel. FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA panel slightly centred to right.

Serial Number

Four. Two additional serial numbers below on either side. The font type of all serial numbers is the same with reduction in size in the lower two serial numbers.

Watermark

Wavy lines within a wavy rectangular panel. INDIA in centre and 5 RUPEES 5 below. The alphabet denoting the plate number on lower left, week and year of manufacturer’s code in two digits in lower middle and lower right respectively.

Note

  1. Burmese and Chinese Languages introduced for the first time in this denomination.
  2. “MMMM Mann” - Chinese translation for “Five Rupees” “MMMM” means “5” , “Mann” means currency. The pronunciation will be “MMMM” is similiar to how you say “hmmmm”.
  3. This Type was issued because of universalisation of Rupees Five in 1903. The universalisation did not include Burma.
  4. Same as Type 2A.1.1 except four serial numbers. The four serial numbers have been accommodated without increase in size of note and placed below numeral panel. New type of language and denomination panel.
