Obverse

Uniface Notes. Printed In England. 1st issue Green underprint. GOVERNMENT OF INDIA in centre. Two serial numbers on either side. Two sets of mirrored date on either side and the circle of issue below language panel. The language panels are below promise text. Denomination panels are on either side. 20 / RUPEES in a hexagon in lower corners. FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA in a panel on lower left with the signature to its right. Green underprint of irregular ovals under serial number and large TWENTY in the middle.

Paper

White, handmade; moulded. The mould consisted of two notes which were cut vertically dividing them. The cut or the sharp edge is either or left or right, the other three edges are uneven or deckle edges.

Wavy lines within a wavy rectangular panel. INDIA in centre and GOVERNMENT OF INDIA below. Vertical RUPEES inverted on either side. Plate number in an alphabet in lower left and week and year of manufacture in four digits on lower right.
