Obverse

BANK OF HINDOSTAN in top centre and CALCUTTA in lower centre. FOUR in top margin on either side. In Numeral and words in Hindi on lower left and Bangla on lower right margin. Arabic numeral and in numerals and words in Persian in a vertical panel on either side. BANK OF HINDOSTAN in Hindi, Persian and Bangla below promise text. 4 FOUR 4 below Promise text. Two dates and two serial numbers on either side and payee’s name in manuscript. Entered by manuscript signature and For the BANK OF HINDOSTAN. Engraved and Printed by Perkins & Bacon, London using Patent Hardened Steel Plate.

Reverse

Denomination in words in Hindi, Persian, Bangla on top and numerals below it. 500 SICCA RUPEES / FIVE HUNDRED 500 in centre.

Watermark

Looped pattern along all four sides in the border. In centre BANK OF HINDOSTAN written in Bangla, English and Persian in three lines.

Note

Date of withdrawal: In 1831 when the bank closed down. The odd denomination of Sicca Rupees 4 was issued for exchange of “Quarter Gold Mohur” weighing 2.91 grams and Sicca Rupees 16 for exchange of “One Gold Mohur” weighing 11.66 grams prevalent in circulation during that period.
